GICs and Canada Deposit Insurance

In Canada, Member banks of the CDIC (Canada Deposit Insurance Corporation) have deposit insurance by the CDIC on most but not all savings products including savings account, chequing accounts, GICs or other term deposits (5yrs or less) with an original term to maturity of 5 years or less. Some RRSPs and RRIFs and TFSAs can also be eligible in certain circumstances. It however does not include insurance for mutual funds and stocks, GICs greater than 5yrs, bonds as well as treasury bills. In addition it does not include accounts in foreign currencies. For more information please visit cdic.ca for clear terms and conditions.
